In 1914, John "Skippy" Mackelroi was instructed that he would be banned from horseracing if he wore anything other than regulation jockey gear during the Kentucky Derby.

He secretly hired a horse handler that was working the starting gates to sneak in his lucky cowboy hat and hand it to him when he entered with his horse "Candy Apple". He quickly discarded his jockey helmet and tapped on his hat and he was OFF TO THE RACES!!! Winning the race by 6 lengths, he glared at the officials while the crowd cheered in the winning circle. He was stripped of the win and banned for life. He finished his career at his family's ranch in Cody, WY. This is all a completely made up story. Thank you for reading this far. Skippy will remain a true legend FOREVER!!!!
